Is the henna mask ok for my color treated hair?

Depends on the color, henna overtime leaves behind a reddish-brown tint. If you have light color-treated hair we recommend the fenugreek instead.

I usually henna to cover grays and it is about that time again! I don’t want to have a negative impact from doing a color treatment then turning around and doing henna in the challenge. Any advice? These grays won’t wait 60 more days!!

If you do a henna treatment on your own before hand. You should just use the moisturize mask. We don’t want you to go into protein overload.

I watched the video in preparation for wash day and Curly Probervz mentioned that the Hibiscus mask was an alternative to the Henna mask. I thought the Fenugreek mask was the alternative for the Henna. Which one is correct?

Henna and Fenugreek are both strengthening protein masks. You had to choose one or the other for your kit.

The Hibiscus is a moisturizing mask that you will alternate the next week after using the Henna or Fenugreek mask in one week.

In other words, everyone got a hibiscus mask for the moisturizing mask. So everyone will use that when not using the protein mask (Henna or Fenugreek)

Hope this helps.

Anyone know the difference between the henna and the fenugreek? I’m curious is they were randomly selected for our boxes or if there is a better option based on porosity, curt patterns, etc.

No they weren't randomly selected. You either purchased the henna or the fenugreek kit. The fenugreek isn't as strong and it doesn't leave a brownish reddish tint on your hair over time. Our Fenugreek mask is not as an intense protein treatment as our henna gloss.

Where are the videos on how to make each product and how and when to apply I have looked on the ordering site the website and in the emails I just can't find them.

Any wash day tutorials for this challenge will be available on Saturday morning in your inbox. That's the best place to find them. We can't send them out before Saturday morning. You can also find Week #1 Hair regimen below.

I never got access to the video or the diy info from the email.

Please contact us directly at customerservice@bellebarorganic.com

So we’re not going to get an overview of wash day until saturday between 2 and 3 pm ?

Wash days email is coming out in the morning because we know we need hours to wash our hair. We planned for that.

I’m not sure whether I’m doing something wrong but all the videos from the course emails are very short (they cut off waayy before the end). Was hoping to catch up before washday tomorrow. How can I watch the full videos?

All the videos are 2-5 minutes. The goal is to give you the information a piece at a time so you absorb it, instead of overwhelming you with long videos.

I am trying to get all the mixing instructions for each product so I can prep them. I simply don't have time to watch All the videos to get the directions.

The welcome email had a checklist for all of the different products you may need for the whole challenge. If you are doing DIY there was also a link to a DIY recipe page that had all of the ingredients and instructions. If you are referring to how to make Belle Bar Organic products the directions are on the pamphlet you received inside of your kit. We recommend making them same day or the day before.

I have low Porosity hair. After the first wash today my hair felt fuller, elongated and moist. My curls was not popping because of my low Porosity hair. I know it’s going to take time to get hydration into the hair for the curls to pop. I do like the feel of my hair.

Thats right! Marathon not sprint! I think alot of the low porosity gals will be feeling a little extra stong at first. Then we get deep into moisture to balance it out.

I have a question about heat and high porosity hair. In her porosity video Farida Sharma said that ladies with high porosity hair may not need to use heat with deep conditioner. But I use my bonnet dryer for my prepoo, my dc , setting my style etc. I’m also nervous about not using heat as I read where this can help the dc to penetrate the hair shaft better. Any thoughts on this? Maybe instead of no heat at all, maybe lower heat for a certain period of time? Any thoughts?

May is the most important word there. That means experiment. If heat in your deep conditioner really works for you, then continue to do so. You just need to make sure you are locking in moisture with cool water after your last rinse.

Hey, I'm high porosity in the front, and low in the back. i did an aphogee protein treatment on january 9th? Is this henna safe to use in my hair right now?

No, do not use the henna fenugreek. Go straight to the moisturizing mask and discontinue all protein treatments outside of the challenge until after the challenge is over.

So I was medium porosity but I realized recently my shampoo conditioner and leave in has protein in them. That would not be a problem if I didn’t give myself a protein treatment. 🤦🏾‍♀️ So now it’s in need of some moisture and it frizz more then normal. Hair type I have the hardest time figuring it out. Please help.

DO NOT USE A PROTEIN BASED CONDITIONER OR LEAVE IN DURING THIS CHALLENGE. You are already getting more than enough protein with the henna/fenugreek and the green tea. You will go into protein overload. For today's wash day, skip the henna/fenugreek mask and use the hibiscus mask. Also as medium porosity make sure to follow the low porosity regimen.

the front of my hair is high porosity from damage and the back of my hair is low porosity what's the best way to care for my hair. Should I deep conditioning with heat or no heat?

Yes, deep condition with heat. you can rinse the front of your hair with cold water after you final rinse to help lock it in.

how do you know if you have protein overload in your hair? I hear about the dangers of protein overload but how can you tell?

Does your hair feel like straw? Does it feel dry no matter what you do? Is it really frizzy? Is it brittle and snapping off? If you answered yes to most of them you are probably experiencing protein overload. Which means suspend all strengthening products for the time being. You need to get your hair back into balance.

Am I the only low porosity chick who’s hair didn’t feel good after the wash? My hair feels dry. I did use the henna mask and know not to use again for 4 to 6 weeks. I also used the tea rinse which I only plan on using on wash day. I twisted my hair with curling cream and coconut oil. Any other recommendations?

Hey ladies. Just read all of these comments. I knew this one was coming. I am low porosity too actually and after using strengthening treatments my hair just freaks out. But actually, it's just all part of the process.

1. That's why for us we are NOT going to touch that henna/fenugreek for another four weeks. We are going deep into that moisture as we need to get our balance on. If your hair feels a bit dry this week, it was to be expected. Through moisturizing throughout the week and after a few moisture only wash days your curls are going to pop.

2. If you feel really dry like you are on the edge of protein overload do not use the green tea at all this week. You don't need it.

3. Go through all of your styling products and wash day products. You DO NOT need protein. Especially any conditioner of leave-in with protein. Do not use!

4. There are some LP girls that find aloe vera drying. Mostly as an active ingredient, or as a spray. Definitely skip it and skip coconut oil if it doesn't work for you.

5. If you have combo porosity, your wash day/ moisturizing is a bit tricky. If the areas are large and defined then you can follow a different regimen for each section. If it's too mixed in I say follow low porosity over high porosity, that's safer.

6. This is a process you need to try things to see what your hair likes and doesn't like. you need that information in order to tweak these regimens to your hair exactly. Don't worry if your hair is a bit strengthened this week. We will compare and contrast next week.

For the hibiscus restorative mask is it enough to mix it with aloe Vera gel?

It will be too thin. You need some active ingredient that is thick so the mask isn't runny.

As we are preparing for wash day, I am removing my passion twists after a month and will be using ACV to help detangle my roots. However I bought the Aztec Bentonite Clay Mask to refresh and revive my curls as well as remove build up and was going to use that on wash day but I forgot we have the hibiscus Black soap as a cleanser. I wanted to know if the hibiscus black soap is enough for wash day to remove that kind of build up or should I proceed with the Aztec mask?

A few of our members asked about clarifying, we did not include it in the challenge. We always craft our hair challenges and instructions to work for 80% of the people, 80% of the time. With everyone not knowing the fundamentals and this course includes alot of protein we did not want them messing around with clarifying just yet. But if you would like to you are welcome to. You will find our regimen is a base and you guys will make tweaks individually based on your hair individual needs.

is it possible to add too much conditioner/natural product to the BBO hair mask mixture? I have a lot of hair and usually need a lot of mask. Wondering if it would “water” it down if too much product is added. Did I miss where it explains how much to add?

The amounts are different for everyone depending on the length of hair. But typically you are going for the texture of blended baby food.

Can I leave my mask on for longer than an hour? Asking because I have some errands to run and want to put it up and soak in then wash out

Yes the mask can be left in for more than an our. We do not recommend overnight especially if you are just starting this regimen.

So, my first wash day was not good. Wish we knew to prep the tea rinse and henna gloss the night before. Feel like I didnt get the best results I could have gotten. That along with other things, trying to not get frustrated.

There is no reason to be frustrated hun. It’s a 60 day course. The goal is to get you there slowly by the end of the 60 days. Besides the tea rinse (which is optional to do the night before not mandatory), the gloss which there is zero need to do the night before (the mask does not need to sit and you should never apply overnight).

Does anyone know if we can still oil are scalps every other day or do we have to skip that?

You absolutely can.

Anyone smell the oil yet? I have not. Not concerned if I do. Id read a few posts of ppl saying they can smell it. I can't

For some the smell is quite strong and it smells like cooked food. For others the smell is quite mild. It all depends on how sensitive to smells you are. You can always cut the scent a bit more with a drop or two of lavender or rosemary essential oil.

I skipped the henna because I’m still recovering from protein overload, so I opted for my usual deep conditioner routine instead. I’m also doing the green tea spritz on Tuesday so I can let it brew overnight. I think I’m a little paranoid about anything that is strengthening because my hair is so dry and desperately needs moisture.

1. when you skip the strengthening treatment for protein reasons use the moisturizing mask instead. Go directly to that 2. If you have protein overload do not brew the tea overnight, you do not need that extra strength. You actually do not need much strength at all since you are working on rebalancing, all you need is moisture so I would skip the green tea and use just plain water, rose water or aloe vera juice for the next couple of weeks. They when you feel your hair is balanced you can return to the green tea. And still only using it 1x - 2x per week besides was day.

Can you make a DIY DC to mix into the mask or does it have to be store bought?

The DIY deep conditioner recipe you do not have to add another deep conditioner. This step - "Blend fresh ingredients - Pumpkin or Banana or Avocado." Takes care of that. When they are using the kit, the mask is in powder form so they need a "wet ingredient" to activate it. With the DIY you do not need that.

For DIY, we have 2 options strength/moisture for the mask and tea. Which one is recommended. Is it based on porosity? I read the whole email and watched all the videos. It's more easy to follow if you have the kit

For each section, we have the BBO product and the corresponding DIY product. So look under step three instructions in the email. Today's hair mask is the henna/fenugreek or DIY strengthening mask. The link is also clickable so you can double-check that you are using the right recipe.

I know things will be explained daily but I have a question. Do we need to be making the DIY recipes along with the kit?

No you do not need to make any DYI if you are using the kit everything will be made the day we use it

Can i use random videos or recipies from curly proverbz's channel?

No DIY’s or videos out side of the emails are apart of this course, that also includes videos from Curly Proverbz channels. If you are following this challenge you need to get all of your information from our emails or from us directly. Of course you are free to do as you like however if you follow recipes or regimen instructions outside of the course unfortunately we cannot help you on those specific areas.

Is banana a good substitute for pumpkin (DIY moisturizing hair mask)? Are there measurements for the pre-poo oil?

If you can’t find pumpkin avocado or banana will do the trick. For pre poo everyone’s length is different but expect to use one half a dropper to one dropper per section.

I was looking at the DIY recipes and was was trying to figure out what Althea is so I can order some? Never heard of it.

It is Marshmallow Root.

DIY Cleanser

STEP TWO: INSTRUCTIONS

CLEANSER

  • With hair still in sections apply The Hibiscus & Black Soap Moisturizing Hair Cleanser
  • Add one teaspoon of the cleanser paste to an 8oz of hot water. Stir cleanser until the cleanser is completely melted. Strain the water. Fill the applicator bottle all the way to the top.
  • Apply the soapy water directly onto your hair from scalp to ends in a combing motion. Cover each section of your hair. Gently massage scalp and hair, adding more water as needed, until good lather forms.
  • To prevent tangles, be sure to always work from the top down, don't pile your hair on your head and use your fingers like a comb, not a mixer.
  • Rinse, rinse, rinse!
  • Repeat if desired
  • Rinse cleanser completely out of your hair
  • Using a t-shirt squeeze excess water out of your hair

*This cleanser is a gentle lather. Do not expect a lot of bubbles. If you feel you need more lather just add a bit more cleanser paste.

Tip: Depending on the length and thickness of your hair you may have to rinse 3-4 times. Do not apply cleanser straight from the jar and directly on hair it will get stuck in your tresses and take longer to wash out. Always melt the cleanser with warm water first.

  • Use an old t-shirt to squeeze excess water out of your hair
  • Apply leave-in conditioner

FAQ'S

* Henna and Fenugreek are strengthening protein hair treatments. If you are experiencing overload, stop using strengthening treatments, use a moisturizing treatment every week until your hair feels balanced again.

*Low porosity hair should only be using a protein (strengthening) treatment once every 4-6 weeks.

*For week 1 everyone is doing a strengthening treatment. The following weeks will be based on your porosity!

*If you are currently experiencing protein overload skip the strengthening treatment and use your Moisturizing Hair Mask instead. Better safe than sorry!

*If you are low porosity we really do recommend adding in a fresh ingredient because you do really need more moisture to balance the Strengthening Hair Mask.

STEP #4 - MOISTURIZE & SEAL

Products Needed

Green Tea Rinse

Onion & Garlic Ayurvedic Hair Oil

Argan Oil Shine & Moisture Hair Butter

DIY Tea Rinse

DIY Oil

DIY Cream

STEP FOUR: INSTRUCTIONS

MOISTURIZE AND SEAL

Begin by reading a brief reminder about the LOC and the LCO methods. This is extremely important to ensure that you follow methods for your porosity. Choose your next step based on whether you are high porosity or low porosity.

LOC and LCO are two methods of moisturizing the hair that help keep moisture locked into place. They’re also an easy guide to remembering the steps of applying your hair products. The two methods are meant to maximize moisture retention after washing the hair, which can be very drying for some of us. Isn’t it so nice that someone was able to come up with not one, but two, ways for curly heads to moisturize their hair?? The jury, however, is still out on which one is “better.”

LOC - Best for high porosity hair

LOC stands for Liquid-Oil-Cream. The LOC method is very popular amongst the curly-haired crowd and will probably always be the first result that pops up when you Google “how to moisturize curly hair.” This order works best for high porosity types because the oil in the second step is able to penetrate the hair deeply, while the cream seals everything into place.

LCO - Best for low porosity hair

LCO stands for Liquid-Cream-Oil. The LCO method is said to work much better on low porosity hair types because it won’t weigh down the hair as much as the LOC method can.

Everyone’s hair is different and everyone’s hair is going to react to products differently. Test out both and see which one works best on your hair! You might be surprised!
